Fears and Phobias are an intense and irrational fear that feel debilitating. In other words, you feel helpless, fearful and unable to control your reaction to it. Some common examples of fears and phobias are; spider phobia, mouse phobia, dental phobia, driving phobia, social phobia, as well as fear of flying, fear of heights, fear of open spaces or crowds, fear of confined spaces such as a lift, and fear of childbirth

Phobias usually develop from early childhood through to early adulthood and can start after terrifying experiences. They can also be learnt from the role models around you, for instance, you may have developed a phobia because your mother had a mouse phobia herself. You developed the phobia as a pre-schooler, after witnessing your mother’s terrifying reaction to seeing a mouse.

Some common physical signs of a phobia are a rapid heartbeat, trembling, feelings of panic and anxiety, sweating, butterflies in your stomach, nausea, and dizziness.
